Internal Auditing & Assessment Guidelines for Medical Laboratories Training Course

The African Biological Safety Association is undertaking a 5 day course aimed to provide Guidelines for quality and environmental management systems auditing, knowledge and skills in monitoring implementation of laboratory quality management systems as an essential element of international recognition and accreditation of laboratories.
The course will enable delegates (trainees) to gain knowledge on the guidelines and principles when conducting internal audit in medical laboratories from hands on facilitators.

Target

The course is for those working in medical diagnostic and clinical research laboratories as Laboratory scientists, Laboratory Managers and Quality Assurance officers and veterinary researchers in zoonotic laboratories . The course is also relevant to those who expect to become involved in the implementation of ISO 15189 and 15190 implementation and WHO Afro stepwise including mentors for Strengthening Laboratory Management towards Accreditation (SLMTA).


Methodology
The courses will be delivered using interactive methods (questions, discussions, parking lot, role play and class exercise) to ensure participants engage with the course materials fully. There will also a one day laboratory site visit for practical engagement and assessment. Participants will be presented with well-targeted information and tasks that lead to the acquisition and sharpening of attributes as stipulated in the requirements at the international standard.


Qualification Criteria
• The course is geared towards professionals working in medical diagnostic and clinical research laboratories
• Individuals who are working or expect to become involved in the implementation of ISO 15189 and 15190 implementation and WHO Afro stepwise including mentors for Strengthening Laboratory Management towards Accreditation (SLMTA).
• Potential participants must have relevant education and experience in implementation of quality management systems and a minimum of 4 years' experience in medical laboratory technology with supervision role and must have had training on Basic Quality Management systems, or Good Clinical Laboratory Practise or Implementation of relevant ISO standard
