AfBSA 2015/2016 Election Announcement for the following positions


1) AfBSA Vice President
2) AfBSA Honorary Treasurer
3) AfBSA Secretary General
4) AfBSA Council Member (North Africa)
5) AfBSA Council Member (West Africa)
6) AfBSA Council Member (East Africa)
7) AfBSA Council Member (South Africa)
8) AfBSA Council Member (Central Africa Region)

 

2. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS FOR CANDIDATES
a. Basic qualifications and skills
a) A university degree in a Biomedical sciences; Medicine or Veterinary medicine, Medical engineering science, and/or in fields related to Chemical, Biological and/or physical sciences and technologies;
b) Knowledge of major international regulations relevant to the Biosafety/Biosecurity or biorisk management sector
c) Sound abilities to lead, organize, motivate and supervise teams;
d) Excellent interpersonal, communication, relation and presentation skills;
e) Good written and oral communication skills in English and/or French
f) Knowledge and understanding of donor funding guidelines/requirements


b. General professional management experience
a) At least 5 years of demonstrable professional experience in management level in a position related to Chemical, Biological and Radiological/Nuclear sciences and technologies;


c. Specific professional experience
a) Proven experience in drafting technical specifications of projects related to biosafety/biosecurity risk mitigation fields;
b) 15 years of experience in at least one field related to Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear risk mitigation (e.g. public health impact mitigation, illicit trafficking, border monitoring, waste management, first response, safety and security);
c) Hands-on experience in one or more Chemical, Biological, or Radiological/Nuclear risk mitigation related fields (e.g. public health impact mitigation, illicit trafficking
d) For AfBSA Vice President, the nominee should have previously served on the AfBSA Council.
e) For Treasurer, the candidates should have served on the Finance Committee and/or have experience dealing with financial issues;
f) The candidates should have experience in AfBSA and/or other professional organizations; through demonstrable recent involvement in AfBSA Council, committees, programmes, or meeting attendance,
g) The candidates should be members in Good standing and have been AfBSA members for at least the last TWO (2) years from the date of this announcement.
h) Willingness to work for AfBSA and have the time available; and have a commitment of the candidates employer to support their participation in the organization;


TERM LENGTHS FOR ELECTED OFFICERS
1. The term for the President and Vice President shall be two years, from the date of elections
2. The term of the Secretary and the Treasurer shall be three years, from the date of elections
3. The terms of Councilors shall be three years, from the date of elections.


IMPORTANT DATES

2) Only suitable candidates shortlisted by the association will be presented for selection the association's members
3) Elections will be carried out by electronic voting on the Associations website over a one week period from June 8th, 2015 to June 14th, 2015
4) Results will be announced on June 17th, 2015
5) Only members in Good standing will be eligible to vote and/or stand for elections
