Call for Abstracts: ASM Biodefense and Emerging Diseases Research Meeting

The Cooperative Biological Engagement Program (CBEP) is conducting an active solicitation for abstracts to attend the ASM Biodefense and Emerging Diseases Research Meeting in Washington, DC, from February 6-8, 2017 - Venue TBD. Please determine who you would like to nominate to attend this conference and share this request for abstracts with them.

The 2017 ASM Biodefense and Emerging Diseases Research Meeting will unite the individuals carrying out the research to defend against the growing threat of bioterrorism with the decision makers shaping the future biodefense research agenda, recognizing that emerging infectious diseases serve as a paradigm for handling the public threat of bioterrorism.

To be considered for CBEP support to attend the conference, nominees should submit an abstract, a completed justification form (attached here), and CV for review and consideration for the attendance at the conference no later than Friday, September 02, 2016. These documents should be sent to the CBEP Africa Science Team at the following email addresses: This email address is being protected from spambots. Abstract approval is required for all oral and poster submissions. Abstracts submitted to CBEP for consideration should conform to the conference guidelines for abstract submission (www.asmbiodefense.org). The justification form should include an explanation of how the research to be presented is relevant to the scope of the conference and how the nominee will benefit from attending. Once the abstract is approved, the nominee will receive notification to submit the abstract to the conference website.

Additionally, please keep in mind the following priorities when submitting abstracts:

(1) Highest priority is given to participants who will present CBEP-funded research. This includes poster sessions and oral presentations.

(2) Participants who present research that is not funded by CBEP will be considered if the research is aligned to both CBEP and the conference. This includes research that involves pathogens of security concern as listed in the US Select Agent list.

(3) Participants who do not present a poster or give a talk will be considered if their field of expertise is aligned to the conference. Participants who will only attend, but make a presentation will be given the lowest priority to receive support.

***Deadline to submit abstracts to CBEP: Friday, September 02, 2016*** *Submissions that are not received by this date will not be considered.
*Please note: Conference organizers have not finalized abstract deadlines, so these dates are subject to change. CBEP will provide an update once final dates have been determined.
*CBEP will notify the nominees if their abstract is approved by the program. It is the responsibility of the conference nominee to submit the CBEP-approved abstract to the conference organizers according to the specified conference deadlines and formats.
*The nominee must notify CBEP when their abstract is accepted or rejected by the conference organizers.
*If the CBEP-approved abstract is rejected by the conference organizers, CBEP may still consider supporting the nominee to attend the conference.
