It's important to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), when hazards cannot be eliminated through engineering and /or administrative controls, PPE must be used to protect the eyes, face, head, feet, hands, arms, body, ears, and lungs.

Some of the Preventable Injuries that can be avoided by use of PPEs are

  • Chemical burns to the eyes
  • Chemical irritation to the eyes and skin
  • Particulate matter in the eye
  • Heat burns
  • Slips, trips, and falls
  • Cuts and abrasions

Good Microbiological Practices

The objectives of good microbiological practices are to;

  • Prevent contamination of laboratory workers and the environment
  • Prevent contamination of the experiment/samples

Good microbiological practice is a basic code of practice that should be applied to all types of work involving microorganisms irrespective of containment level (i.e. genetic modification, tissue culture).
